Beseler 23C/45MX Lens Board/Filter Tray System

Thanks for picking up the lens board and filter tray system! These instructions are specific to the 23C/45MX version. The Durst M601 and Omega D2 versions differ in their setup in use.

The system is made up of 3 main parts – the lens board, the filter tray, and the threaded rod to connect the two together. The board and tray have nylon set screws which are meant to be driven into the thread. These should be snug, but do not have to be overly tight (over-tightening can strip the screw heads).

The system may arrive to you with the tray and board attached together already. If not, go ahead and run the all thread into the board so it “bottoms out” into the board and then secure it by tightening the set screw on the board. Next, you can attach your lens which should mount the same way as the original boards.

Now you can either mount the tray or can attach the board into the enlarger and then mount the tray. In either case, to mount the board into the enlarger, remove the old board by unscrewing the bolts on the left and right of the board. These are meant to hold the board in place so it doesn’t slide back and forth. With these loosened, you should be able to pull the board forward and then down to release it. Then place the new board into the enlarger, make sure it is being held in place properly and then screw the side screws down. Note that much like the screws for the threaded rod, these are nylon and do not need to be over-tightened. They are there just to add some friction to keep the board from sliding out. If you notice the lens board is bending, you have the screws too tight.

Finally if you haven’t attached the filter tray, you can do so now but placing it onto the threaded rod. The rod is likely longer than you need (this is on purpose to support multiple lenses). Place the tray close to the lens while allowing room to slide the filters in and out from the side as needed. When you have found a good spot, secure it in place by tightening the nylon screw.

And that’s about it! Note that these instructions were for a 23C. The 45MX uses the same board size. There may be small differences in mounting between 23C and 45MX variations. If you have any issues, please reach out to us as we would be happy to help assist you!
